🌍 Continuing our Black History Month celebrations at Cedar Mount Academy!
Last week was another fantastic week of learning, inspiration and celebration at CMA! 👏
👩⚕️ We welcomed midwives from the University of Salford, who delivered an engaging workshop for Year 9 girls, exploring careers in midwifery and the importance of increasing diversity within the profession.
We were also delighted to welcome Naomi Lowe-Lennon, Lecturer in Children and Young People’s Nursing, who led a fascinating session with Year 7 pupils about Mary Seacole and traditional Caribbean health remedies.
📚 Across the academy, pupils explored a range of important topics in their Personal Development lessons, including Black British Icons, the Bristol Bus Boycott, Black British Politicians, the Windrush Generation and Afrofuturism.
Our colleagues also got involved, proudly displaying posters celebrating their Black heroes on classroom and office doors!

🌍 Celebrating Black History Month at Cedar Mount Academy!
It’s been a fantastic first week of Black History Month celebrations at CMA, with pupils enjoying a range of inspiring talks, workshops and activities!
👏 Professor Bamedele Adebisi MBE shared his inspiring career journey with Year 10, while Victory Oforji from the University of Salford and Angela Assor from Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust also visited to share their experiences and career insights.
🎶 We were delighted to welcome back former pupils Lutae and Shoonki, who delivered engaging lessons for Year 8, including a creative songwriting workshop.
Throughout the week, our fantastic EDI Ambassadors also led assemblies exploring Manchester’s Black History.

Cedar Mount is delighted to begin an exciting three-year partnership with Sigma Capital through Class Of Your Own and its Design Engineer Construct! (DEC) programme.🌟
Through KS3 Design and Technology, pupils will take part in real-world design, engineering and construction projects, developing practical skills in areas such as digital design, sustainability and the built environment. Sigma’s sponsorship will help us bring this learning to life through industry expertise, educational visits, careers talks and links with professionals working across the sector. 👏 🚧
This partnership will give our pupils valuable insight into how the skills they develop in the classroom connect with future study, apprenticeships and careers in design, engineering, construction and related industries.👷♂️
A special thank you to Ms. Surinder Singh and Ms. Stubbs for coordinating the partnership and working closely with Class Of Your Own and Sigma to establish and develop the DEC programme at Cedar Mount. Their work has secured a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and will help ensure that they gain meaningful experience of the industries and careers that could form part of their futures. 💫

As part of our continued commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, pupils have been working together on a brilliant ‘Marvelous Muslims’ project.
Year 11 pupils researched inspirational Muslims they wanted the project to celebrate, before Year 7 pupils brought their research to life through creative pieces of work.
The finished display now has pride of place in our Religious Studies classroom! 👏 #TheCMAWay

Students from Cedar Mount Academy celebrated World Afro Day this week. They delivered an assembly at Stanley Grove before delivering lessons to two Y5 classes at Rushbrook. We then welcomed Yewande Gafaar to deliver a session to students on confidence, identity and embracing Afro-textured hair, alongside practical advice on healthy hair care and protective styling. 💚 ⭐ #WorldAfroDay
