At Cedar Mount Academy, there is a common understanding that education is the entitlement to powerful knowledge that takes students beyond their immediate experiences. The curriculum is therefore designed to enable students to acquire knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours that take them further than their context. The substantive knowledge that all pupils need to know, and the procedural knowledge that demonstrate what all pupils’ should be able to do, is designed to enable students to become global citizens and impact positively on the world.
Social and cultural mobility are the keys to securing high quality, lifelong and positive outcomes for our pupils’ and allow them to be the best versions of themselves. Our curriculum is designed to build resilient pupils with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to be responsible and effective members of the community locally, nationally and internationally. Therefore, in doing so, the aim is to transform pupils’ life chances in a way which supports positive outcomes for our pupils. The curriculum is deeply enhanced by wide extra-curricular provision and thoughtful subject based enrichment.
The curriculum will enable our pupils to be confident and active members of the global community, whose voices are heard and they are well prepared and equipped to tackle the barriers that may limit them in fulfilling their ambitions. The curriculum we create and implement is one which is inspiring, inclusive and engaging, focusing on sequencing of learning over five years which takes students from their individual starting points to successful end points post-16. Our objective is for the curriculum to ensure that all our pupils’ needs are addressed and supported so that they can also develop as young people who are well equipped to enter the workplace.
The curriculum is representative and responsive to our diverse and evolving school community. High aspirations are at the very heart of our school ethos to ensure
the best for everyone, the best from everyone.
